The last passenger train left the North Front Range in the 1960s. Now is the time to re-establish passenger rail along Colorado's Front Range and to put the Front Range On Track.
Imagine a transportation network of buses, shuttles, bike and pedestrian paths all connected with a centralized rail line that makes it possible to easily travel between the North Front Range communities. Such a network is hard to envision today, whether driving from Longmont to Loveland on US Highway 287 (US 287) or driving from Fort Collins to Denver on Interstate 25 (I25).
Passenger train service provides the backbone for a transportation system that will tie existing transit systems such as buses along with future options such as shuttles and trolleys into a seamless network that creates real transportation options for the North Front Range.
The time is now to create viable multi-modal regional transportation systems that provide commuters and travelers options to our car-only travel. This is not pie-in-the-sky thinking. The Colorado Department of Transportation is now completing a study of the Northern I25 corridor, including the re-establishment of passenger rail services on the existing BNSF line running from Cheyenne, Wyo. to Denver, and Front Range on Track is working to ensure that our community is aware of this option and others.
